Five for Friday

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs again. It seems like Five for Friday link up is the only time I get to sit down and blog. This week has been BUSY!!

1-Yesterday was my little boy's 8th birthday! His party is tomorrow.  If I survive, I will post pics...

2-This photo looks like mommy & daddy's feet. NOPE! It's a pic of my foot and my 12 year old's foot. His shoe is a size 14!! Kody is already 6 foot tall.  It hurts my heart that I have to look up at him.

3-The kids learned a lot about Martin Luther King Jr. this week.  In our class, we have five different races/skin colors. I began the lesson by lining up five kids and we pointed out the things that were the same. We came up with 10 things! Then I asked them what was different. Skin color was the only thing.  We are way more alike than different...After our discussion, we noted the difference in egg colors. Busted those things up and they were exactly the same on the inside. Just like people!!...I know you all have seen these ideas on Pinterest. How did we ever make it without Pinterest??

4-Today we made a was/ had/ wanted chart of Martin Luther King Jr. We had to put our artistic skills to work!! I found this cute idea at Chalk Talk.

5-This is me at 2:00!..Just kidding..Next week we are discussing feelings. I took silly pics of each kiddo. They will write about how they felt in the photo. Of course Ms. Christy had to do a silly face too!! I probably did look like this at 3:00. We had a great day!

Finally Friday!

1-Common Core-  Last year, my school began integrating common core in small bits.  This year, we have dove in with all of our might! We had another training yesterday and I still have a headache.  My mind is spinning around those two words. "common" and "core".
2-100th Day Of School-  What a fun day!! Only 79 days left..
3-Winter Weather Package- First Grade Carousel is hosting a Winter Wonderland Exchange. My class wrote a letter and made a craft about our winter. I mailed our package to her today. She will mail us a package from someone across the country.  Click on the link and join the exchange.  Deadline is January 25th.
4. Due to icy weather conditions, we had two 60% days this week. I enjoyed going home early and catching an episode of Maury!
5. Bully Bash- Students are rewarded each nine weeks for good behavior. If they complete classwork and have no office referrals, they are rewarded with a fun activity. Today's reward was Madagascar 3. While most of my students were out of the room, I got a lot of things accomplished. I actually tackled "that" stack of papers!

100th Day Of School!

Today was our 100th day of school. The kids had fun with all the activities but this teacher is tired! Here are things we did to celebrate.. 

The kids LoVeD the door! They kept saying they wanted to keep it up. Sorry. That thing was cute but it stirred those babies up!!

First thing this morning, we had 100 day rotation. Each first grade teacher planned one activity. The classes stayed in a classroom 15 minutes then we swapped classes. My kids liked going to other teacher's rooms. I guess they liked the change of scenery..

Crowns-We had to glue a few sequins on the crown to add a little bling.

Counting by 10's. I began our activity by watching this one minute video.Curious George Counts to 100.

At the end of the day, we read this book and wrote setences about the activities. Every one wrote how much they enjoyed the their day. That made all the work  worth it!

Kinda Snow Day..Freebie

We have had the strangest weather here! Yesterday morning, we had the air conditioning on. This afternoon, we dismissed school early due to freezing rain. It's getting STRANGE around here!!

Tell Me Something Good!

Jennifer from Rowdy in First Grade is having a linky party. All you do is tell something good at school and at home. Then link up! After the LONG week I had, I need to remember some good things! :)
School- At the end of the day yesterday, I told the kids it was time to pack up. A little girl whined and said, "I want to come to school tomorrow. I missed school during the Christmas break." Wow! Made my heart smile!!
Home- My bestie and I have started running again. It's not pretty but I am doing it! Gotta get ready for a 5k in March. I'm not really looking to have a record time. I just don't want to be the last person to cross the finish line!

Survived my first week back!

On Monday, I went back to school for a professional development.  Our kids came back on Tuesday. Four day weeks always seem long. It's always so hard to get back in the swing of things.. I was ready to go back though.  I NEED a routine. That's the way my body functions!!

1-Yesterday, I reached 100 followers. Wow!!!! Thanks so much for visiting me. :)

2-We had 30 extra minutes before going to computer rotation. So we clicked on pinterest to check out a baby penguin video. I saw this measuring activity posted. So we had to drag out rulers and yarn and try it out!

3-Saw this on pinterest too! The kids wanted to make it him since he's so cute.  We will write about this little dude on Monday...Don't you just love impromptu goodies!!

4-Found this on Teacher pay teacher. The first day back from holiday break, students chose one personal resolution to write about.

5-After writing personal resolutions, we made a class resolution. We discussed the importance of starting over new and keeping a promise. Each child signed it. We will see how long it last. They are pretty smart so I think it will last a while..At least until the Valentine's Day party..AKA worst day of the year!!!

Oh how I have enjoyed living in my pj's for two weeks!! Our teachers go back Monday for professional development. So I have a few more days to be lazy. :)
